Arthritis in Cats, poly arthritis

Some people do have this notion that arthritis is a disease that will only affect humans. Even animals do have diseases that they do experience and suffer from. Particularly cats, there is an arthritis which cats are being affected for.

Cats are considered to be a lovable pet for their nice fur and beautiful cat eyes, who would not fall for them? With all the happiness they give to the owner, it will never struck in to the minds of the owners that their beloved cats will have a disease especially when being taking care of properly.

What is Poly Arthritis?

Due to the nature of a cat’s behavior most likely arthritis will be one of the diseases this pet will have. Cats do love jumping and moving around, going to the roofs, jumping on the bed and hiding below the sofa, these are few of the activities that cats do. The movements that cats do entail stress with respect to their joints. Cats like humans, as they grow older, the body will begin to wear and tear, susceptible to catch arthritis. Cats will get arthritis when injured and this is called traumatic arthritis, it will even spread to body’s joints. Poly arthritis can be caused also by bacteria and it can be hereditary also.

Poly arthritis simply means an arthritis that affects several joints same time. With the definition itself it can be said that animals with poly arthritis experience a lot of pain especially when being outdoors all the time.

Symptoms

Poly arthritis has a lot of symptoms. Here are the following:

1. Limping
2. Climbing stairs is stop
3. Jumping from small height is stop
4. Not tempted to go out and hunt
5. Sudden body stiffness
6. Sudden aggression when being touched
7. Does not play anymore
8. Does not ask food the same way as before
9. No more rubbing itself between your legs anymore
10. Not as energetic and playful as it can be

Treatment

It is very heart breaking for the owner to see his or her cat suffering in deep pain. Due to advancement of technology, poly arthritis can be cured if caught in its early stages.

The right person to go through is the veterinarian. There will be some few tests that need to be conducted such as: ultrasound, blood test, radiograph and a physical examination before arriving to a diagnosis. When poly arthritis is being diagnosed, then it’s time to treat it with pharmaceutical drugs such as: Glucosamine, Chondroitin and small amounts of NSAIDs.

It is adviasble to give the cat with a balanced diet combined with Vitamin C regularly. The cat would definitely recover within few days later to one month in maximum.
